If you have tried and failed with various other training methods to discourage inappropriate barking in your dog (such as positive reinforcement activities or just plain giving him more attention), then the Ergo Systems No Bark Trainer might be something you are considering.

The device will work with virtually every size of dog and dog breed as no collar is involved so there is no need to worry about it fitting your dog. However it is not the cheapest of devices: ranging in the $50-$80 range depending upon where you buy it from.

I am still up in the air about ultrasonic devices as there is no proof that it does not cause damage to a dog’s ears, or cause any pain.
Therefore I do not recommend them as a first point of call (or even a second or third).

You should aim to curb excessive barking with positive training methods, and by addressing the cause (boredom, loneliness, agression etc).

You can set the device to be audible to your own ears when you are setting it up. This helps you direct the focus of the sound to the approximate barking location. Then just switch it back to ultrasonic mode and it’s ready to go.
